Vaccination against Covid for 5-11 year olds starts this morning at 9 a.m. at the Carcassonne hospital center.
By the admission of the director of the Regional Health Agency Pierre Ricordeau, the recommendation is “less imperative for children not at risk”. Suffice to say that the priority is rather put on the first-vaccinated adults and the 3rd doses. To protect themselves from serious forms of Covid, 5-11 year olds however have access to vaccination, three times less dosed than for adults. From this Saturday, January 8, vaccination is open at the Carcassonne hospital center (and not at the Montlegun vaccination center). It will be from January 15 at the Narbonne vaccination center, the doses distributed by the Carcassonne hospital pharmacy have not yet been sent to Narbonne. If the hospital insists on opening this service as of this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. it is above all for the sake of pedagogy, the procedure taking time. The appointment is still compulsory by Doctolib (1 appointment for siblings), there was only one slot left at 11:20 a.m. Friday evening and then nothing before Saturday February 12. Vaccination of 5-11 year olds in hospital will only be done on Saturdays.
Since the end of December, city doctors have already been authorized to vaccinate 5-11 year olds with the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine. This is the case in this village in the Black Mountain, where the doctor is only waiting for an appointment to be made to open his vial of 10 doses. It has received nine requests since the beginning of the month… The ARS explains that at-risk children who may in particular develop the PIMS syndrome (an English acronym for Pediatric Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome-NDLR) are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated.
Not the rush
In Occitania, less than 6,000 children received an injection. That the Carcassonne hospital offers its appointments within the hospital center has an explanation: the vaccination of children under 12 years old follows a very strict protocol. An exchange is planned between the doctor and the parent (s), as well as with the child. The written consent of both parents is now required before proceeding with the vaccination. The presence of only one of the two parents is sufficient. Before the bite, a drop of blood is taken from the pulp of the finger to define the number of doses needed.
