The Center de santé de la Côte-Nord is beginning the redevelopment of the psychiatry unit of the Sept-Îles hospital. These works, necessary for the construction of the new emergency from 2024, will lead to traffic restrictions in front of the hospital until December 2023.
More broadly, access to the Sept-Îles hospital will be a little more difficult until 2027 with the major modernization work that will be carried out there.
As of next Monday, rue Père-Divet will become a one-way northbound between rue DeQuen and rue Franquelin.
Storage and handling space will be set up for the contractor who will carry out the $15 million work to redevelop the hospital’s psychiatry unit.
Currently located on the ground floor, it will be moved to the third floor, in a new environment, formerly occupied by bedrooms and administrative premises.
“I would tell you that we will certainly have one of the most beautiful psychiatric departments in Quebec, really modern and up to standard to serve this clientele safely,” said the director of technical services at the CISSS de la Côte-Nord, Danny Gagnon.
In a second phase, work will be launched in the coming months for the major expansion project of the emergency room and the operating room which should be carried out between 2024 and 2027 in one of the hospital parking lots.
The contractor will prepare the connection between the existing hospital and the new building, the interior design phase of which has been completed. After years of procrastination and uncertainty, the project seems to be on the right track to materialize, which pleases the mayor of Sept-Îles, Steeve Beaupré.
“I am happy that this work can finally begin after 10 years of announcements by various ministers and governments,” he told TVA Nouvelles.
Over the next few weeks, project officials will focus on the exterior design of the new emergency room and operating theatre. Will the town hall of Sept-Îles, next to the hospital, be acquired to make it a parking lot? The decision has not yet been made, but the suspense is over, say in unison the CISSS de la Côte-Nord and the mayor of Sept-Îles.
“This is where we start to look at this aspect in a very specific way. We are looking at different options. We are reaching a turning point where we will have to choose one,” said Danny Gagnon.
Mayor Steeve Beaupré said that the uncertainty surrounding this file will soon be lifted. “There is a decision that will be made in 2023. I promised it, I mentioned it and it will remain. The municipal council, with the recommendations of the administration, will make a decision, whether favorable or unfavorable, whether it is for the construction of a new city hall, whether it is the sale to the CISSS.
