Beginning November 1, Seasonal Flu Vaccination in Adults

Next Monday, November 1, begins in Cuba seasonal influenza vaccination, for adults, reported the National Head of Vaccination, Dr. Lena López Ambrón.

The administration of the immunogen (a single dose of 0.5 milliliters) will take place throughout the month of November in the same vaccinations used for the application of anti-COVID-19 drugs.

According to the health authority, among the population to be included in this process are adults over 85 years of age; those with type 1 diabetes mellitus and bronchial asthma, between 19 and 24 years old; patients with chronic kidney failure, infantile cerebral palsy and cystic fibrosis, over six years old; as well as pregnant women in any trimester.

What’s more, the vaccine will be applied in grandparents’ homes, nursing homes, psycho-pedagogical medical centers; to institutionalized chronic psychiatric patients, workers of poultry and pig farms, and of the health sector, who work in units of attention to the serious one.

From December 1 to December 31 will be the recovery period, for those who have not been able to receive the immunogen on the indicated date.

The specialist also reported that since the 12th of this month this process has been developed in the pediatric population between six months and two years, with a scheme of two doses of 0.25 milliliters.

Cuba carries out this campaign with the purpose of preventing serious complications associated with seasonal influenza in the southern hemisphere. Contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses.

It affects the nose, throat, and lungs, can cause mild to severe episodes, and is sometimes fatal.
