Victims of last month’s oil spill in the Philippines province of Oriental Mindoro caused by the sinking of MT Princess Empress are to be offered the chance to claim compensation. The compensation claims can be made by subsistence fisherfolk, non-government organisations, tourism establishments and local government units affected by the disaster. A “claims caravan” will open in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on 27 March, where claimants can submit their completed claims forms. The categories covered by the insurance will include economic losses for those involved in fisheries and mariculture, the tourism sector and tourism-related business, property damage, and the cost of cleanup and preventive measures.
Beginning March 27, processing of compensation for victims of the Mindoro oil spill will commence.
