Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Xiaomi just introduced the Redmi Note 12 series globally some time ago. This entry-level HP brings several significant improvements, even features that are generally dipped in midrange HP (mid-range) and press.
If you mean update to the Redmi Note 12, see the comparison with last year’s Redmi Note 11.
Layar AMOLED, 120Hz refresh rate
The Redmi Note 11, released in 2021, shocked many people because it came with a refresh rate of 90Hz, but the price was “only” IDR 2.5 million. Tests by 91mobiles show that the 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with HD + resolution produces deep contrast and rich colors.
Even so, 91mobiles said that the brightness level of the Redmi Note 11 only reached 1000 nits, while the Redmi Note 10 reached 1100 nits, quoted by CNBC Indonesia on Monday (9/1/2023).
Meanwhile, the latest Redmi Note 12 comes with a more spacious 6.67-inch screen with FHD+ resolution. The panel uses Super AMOLED and uses an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz.
On paper, the specs of this screen can be compared to expensive cellphones in the market. An adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz allows for a smoother user experience when scrolling on a mobile. However, if it is not needed, the refresh rate will automatically adjust itself to save battery.
According to the claims, the Redmi Note 12 has a maximum brightness of up to 1200 nits.
Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset
The Redmi Note 11 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 which is widely used by middle-class mobiles released in 2022. Then, the Redmi Note 12 steps up to the next level with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset, which was just released last October.
One of the significant differences, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 already supports 5G modems, while the Snapdragon 680 is still comfortable with the 4G LTE model.
Both chipsets use the 6nm manufacturing process. However, Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 graphics are supported by the latest Adreno 619. There are 128 Image Processing Units (Shading Units).
Meanwhile, on the Snapdragon 680, the graphics use the Adreno 610 with 96 shading units. Overall, Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 performs better than Snapdragon 680.
Redmi Note 12 uses 3 cameras, compared to the 4 cameras of Redmi Note 11
The Redmi Note 12 does away with a camera feature previously featured on the Redmi Note 11, namely the depth feature with a 2MP sensor.
The latest Redmi Note series comes with only three cameras. Each with 48MP for the main camera, 8MP for ultrawide and 2MP for macro.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 11 has quad cameras, where the primary camera has a higher quality i.e. 50MP. The ultrawide and macro cameras are both 8MP and 2MP. Plus 1 x 2MP depth camera.
It’s not yet clear whether the image results will have much effect or not. The reason is that the 2MP depth camera is often considered not too important.
The price is more expensive
The Redmi Note 12 which already supports the 5G network is set at a more expensive global price. For the 4GB/128GB RAM/ROM model, this cell phone is valued at Rs 17,999 (Rp. 3.4 million).
The 6GB/128GB model costs 19,999 rupees (Rp. 3.7 million). Compared to its predecessor, the Redmi Note 11 retails with a starting price range of IDR 2.4 million when it was first released.
By monitoring CNBC Indonesia, this mobile phone has been discounted on Xiaomi Indonesia official website. The price starts from IDR 2.3 million.
