Before traveling to the Vatican, Mikati intervenes with the banks

It was stated in Al-Diyar:
Yesterday, the dollar continued its rapid and insane rise above 92 thousand pounds, while the markets remained in a state of chaos and chaos without any controls, and the price of a can of gasoline exceeded one million seven hundred thousand pounds.

Economic sources suggested that this rocket rise of the dollar would continue, especially after the Bank of Lebanon raised the exchange rate of a dollar to 73,100 pounds, which was also reflected in an increase in cell phone and electricity bills.

Regarding the banks’ strike, informed sources told Al Diyar that the contacts that took place did not result in convincing the banks not to return to the open strike after tomorrow, Tuesday, noting that President Mikati intervened again personally to stop the strike before he travels to the Vatican to meet His Holiness the Pope next Thursday.

She said that the contacts would continue in the coming hours, especially after the judicial decision to appeal against the Mediterranean Bank was halted, in order to dissuade the Association of Banks from its position.

The sources did not rule out that Mikati would press for the continued opening of the banks’ doors.

Regarding his visit to the Vatican, Mikati’s sources told Al Diyar that it is not the first, and he had previously visited the Vatican last year. It is a visit that is gaining importance at this time, given the combined role of the prime minister and the cabinet in light of the presidential vacancy.

She indicated that the discussion will take place on the current situation in Lebanon and the region, and of course it will deal with the presidential election and ways of working to conduct it as soon as possible.

With regard to the Council of Ministers meeting, the sources said that it will not happen next week, not because of the visit, but rather because the Ministries of Education and Finance were unable to complete the schedules related to productivity assistance and assistance to retirees in the civil and military public sectors.
