Today, thanks to the release of the interactive Half-Life Story Book: Alyx – Final Hours, a lot of information about the Half-Life saga is re-emerging.
In this interactive documentary available on Steam for € 8.19, the team behind Half-Life: Alyx, the virtual reality episode of the Half-Life saga, confides and affirms that during the last ten or fifteen years either between Half-Life 2 : Episode Two and Half-Life: Alyx, which the studio worked on a total of five projects. Unfortunately for the fans, one of them was the long-awaited Half-Life 3. Indeed, the team worked between 2013 and 2014 to set up the third installment of the saga. The latter had to use the Source 2 engine, propose procedural generation and be inspired at the same time to Left 4 Dead. With this idea in mind, the developers wanted to make Half-Life 3, a game with great replayability. Unfortunately, as you already know, the latter was later abandoned, the fault with the Source 2 engine, which at the time, was not yet over.
Geoff Keighley also talks about four other canceled projects including another Half-Life production in virtual reality, but also an open world RPG inspired by the big video game sagas such as Monster Hunter, Dark Souls and The Elder Scrolls. In 2016, therefore, after many mistakes, several employees of the company decided to join the team currently dispersed on too many projects to set up Half-Life: Alyx, the FPS in virtual reality released on March 23.
