Martin Chromiak is expected to be one of Slovakia’s NHL hopes in the future. However, the 20-year-old striker has been out of luck lately. He was in the hospital with stomach problems and lost fourteen kilograms.
Therefore, he also missed the junior summer world championship. Gradually he got fit and did well in the Los Angeles Kings camp when he was given space in one of the preseason games. He was supposed to start the season on the team’s farm, where they were also counting on him for power plays. However, he has not yet joined the AHL, as he underwent appendix surgery last Saturday.
After everything you’ve been through for the past few months, you probably think you’ve been out of luck for a long time.
“I think it will be like that. Unfortunately it was only time for the start of the season and I had to take a break.”
How did your appendix problems arise?
“The first game was waiting for us at the farm. The night before I had a bit of a stomach ache. I went to the stadium to get the medicine, but it was getting worse. Nothing helped me. I went home, but I couldn’t sleep. I immediately called the management that could not be tolerated. I have never experienced such pain. They sent me to the hospital, where I was diagnosed with appendicitis. ”
Did they tell you how this happened to you?
“They said it just happens. Your gut can get clogged with food, there doesn’t have to be a specific reason for that.”
Could appendicitis be related to your previous stomach problems?
“I talked to the doctors about it. It could have been related, but rather not. I feel much better now. Luckily I didn’t lose weight this time, I was able to eat everything right away and went home. I don’t even have to go on a diet. I have also been to specialists. I have no limits. ”
When can you start training?
“On Saturday I was operated on. I had a check up, everything has healed well. By the end of the week I should be on the ice and I should be 100% ready. The interruption will be about ten days. I’ll see if I can get right into terms. of fitness. I think I might already play in AHL. ”
What was your starting position in the team?
“I should have been in the opening game of the season, even in the power play. I think nothing will change, even if it will be more difficult, because the team is doing well and playing well.”

“We talked a lot about it. I was in a similar situation to his. I told him not to wait like I used to, when I only left for a middle school abroad after December. I played little at Dukla. I told him not to. my own mistake. We talked about it with the agent and the parents and we decided that now he will go abroad. It’s the right move. He gets a lot of space. Did the fact that you waited a long time ago and then surprisingly crashed in the fifth round of the NHL draft also played a part in that?
“That’s one of the possibilities. On the other hand, if I had come to Canada earlier, maybe they wouldn’t have given me much space. Everything was as it should be. Plus, the brother has time, because his draft year isn’t until next year. season. Now it was important for him to play. I think he will catch on. ”
How about Jakub’s comparison with Simon the German?
“It’s nice, but Šimon is a different kind of defender. I would be very happy if my brother could reach his level, but he’s still a long way off. Similar comparisons are just such a multimedia game.”
You yourself experienced that after the seasons in men’s hockey, you returned to junior hockey. Filip Mešár is also experiencing something similar. Is he a good move?
“I think it’s a different hockey and a different world. Everyone should experience it and try it. It will only be good for Filip to get used to hockey abroad in a lighter league like AHL. OHL is an offensive league and he he’s an offensive guy like me. He helped me a lot and he’ll be similar for Filip as he prepares for next season. ”
