You definitely have some habits that you make before leaving the apartment for a long period of time. These include closing windows, unplugging household appliances, but also other measures that can help us protect property. What shouldn’t you forget?
Providing water, gas and electricity
You probably don’t do this before the weekend at the cottage, but you should when you go on vacation. Turn off the circuit breakers of appliances where possible, that is, outside the refrigerator, freezer and alarm. Turn off the gas supply to the house, unplug household appliances and turn off the water supply. Thanks to this, you eliminate the risks associated with burnout or overheating.
Plus, you shouldn’t even keep your shutters tightly closed all the time – if your house feels empty and abandoned for a few days, it can attract burglars.
You can keep an eye on the freezer when it’s on thanks to a coin
You’ll likely leave the freezer on. Here too, however, an outage may occur. To instantly reveal it upon your return, try a simple coin trick. In the event of a prolonged absence, there may be a power failure, the freezer defrosts the food and then freezes again after the power is restored. After your return, you may not know at all that the outage occurred and for how long. If so, it can easily happen that you consume foods full of harmful bacteria.
Prepare a cup and a coin
The measurement is simple and only takes a moment. And this is worth the peace of mind. Prepare a cup of water and a coin. Put the cup in the freezer and let the water freeze. Then place a coin on it. Store the cup of coins in the freezer for the duration of your vacation. Once home, the coin should still be in place at the top of the cup.
If it is lower, there has been a power outage in your absence. In this case, you should not consume the food stored in the freezer, as it is likely to be contaminated. Thanks to this trick, you will be absolutely sure that there is no power outage.
