‘Before I knew it, after the interview with Nuis, we were in an off-road jeep’

“It was crazy to stay as a working reporter in an all-inclusive hotel full of towel-laying Germans. Around our work you saw singing evenings, bingo nights and limbo competitions.”

“Our interview with Nuis on a beautiful piece of pier was therefore constantly interrupted by holidaymakers who came to have a look, to notice something or to lounge around next to Nuis. And that while the story was about his heart and soul.”

Dead end

“But it worked. All we needed was a nice overview shot of the bay where they stayed. Looked up a point on the map. It was a 45-minute drive. It turned out: a dead end… With a wooden fence that seemed to belong to a country house.”

“We took the gamble and drove there. Turned out to be a private museum with beautiful pieces of art. And with a very nice owner: ‘Oh, Dutch TV. I know Apeldoorn, come I take you’. Before we knew it we were in an off-road jeep, bumping on what was once a road, between grazing donkeys and modern art objects to one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Mallorca.”

“Working in a kind twilight zone between vacation and Olympic preparation. It is strange and difficult to work, but fortunately a viewer does not notice it.”
