They are spokespersons for young people committed against global inequalities and extreme poverty. Originally from Essonne, Treat Sarah are part of 55 young people selected to become ambassadors of non-governmental organization (ONG) ONE, co-founded par Bono lead singer of U2.
Advocacy with political leaders
“I have always felt the need to get involved in humanitarian causes. I did this by being sure of the field as close as possible to the beneficiaries. But what interested me with ONE was the possibility of educate the general publicbut also to advocate with political leaders”, assures Sarah, a master’s student in litigation and European Union law at the University of Paris Panthéon Assas.

“ONE does not have a European vision of Africa which can sometimes be miserable. ONE collaborates a lot with Africans and also has young ambassadors in Kenya, Senegal, etc.,” explains the master’s student in international relations.

Within the NGO, the two young women have the choice of carrying out various missions.
Thus, Sarah was able to meet with the office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, ahead of the summit for a new global financial pact which took place in Paris on June 22 and 23, with the idea defend a more ambitious official development assistance budgetat the height of the emergency and the global challenges.
ONE’s causes, such as food insecurity and climate change, affect us all. We are no longer unaware of the consequences of our actions, whether we live in a developed country, an emerging country or a less advanced country.

Flexibility in the choice of modes of action
A commitment that takes time. “I always try to find the right balance between my studies and my voluntary work. We have an internal schedule with the date of the events to which we can register according to our availability”, assures Ikram.
Once a month, the two young women, as well as the other ambassadors, can take part in a thematic training organized by the NGO with subjects relating to international financial mechanisms linked to climate change or development aid.

“A very interesting and enriching experience”
“They make it possible to give us, the ambassadorstools that can be used during advocacy campaignsbut also in the professional context or in the context of my studies for my part”, greets Ikram.
” It’s a very interesting and rewarding experience for someone who studies law, who likes to educate himself on these issues and who likes to be in action”, abounds Sarah who plans to extend her commitment within the NGO if her course does not take her elsewhere in the world.
