Ukraine had to cancel this year’s local Miss Universe pageant. Last year’s number two Victoria Apanasenko will represent the country.

Ukraine’s Miss Universe Committee has chosen to send 31-year-old Apanasenko to the international competition. It writes the committee on Instagram.
Victoria Apanasenko came second last year, and has thus been selected by the committee since no local competition was arranged.
The committee writes on Instagram that Apanasenko is actively working for Ukraine’s victory in the war against Russia. She works with information, and has also participated as a volunteer on the streets of Kyiv and helped distribute food to the elderly, and prepare rations for the Ukrainian forces fighting in the war.
–She is a trained social worker, and according to the committee, she chose this job because she has always wanted to work with social work and to help vulnerable groups.
The committee is now working on the outfit the 31-year-old will wear during the competition, which according to the Instagram post will “symbolize the strength of the Ukrainian people”.
Apanasenko comes from Chernihiv, in northern Ukraine on the border with Belarus and Russia. It is a city that has been under heavy attack. At the end of March, the mayor announced that the city is “completely destroyed”.
A few days before, it was reported that the death toll was so high that the city’s cemetery could no longer receive the dead.
