Become a Volunteer Beaver Advisor: Two-Day Training Course Offered by Freiburg Regional Council

The Freiburg Regional Council (RP) offers a two-day training course to become a volunteer beaver advisor. The free course will take place on November 18th and 25th in Feldberg-Altglashütten (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district). Anyone who wants to get involved in nature conservation and enjoys dealing with people can take part. Beaver advisors support nature conservation authorities by advising on how to deal with beavers. They are the first point of contact on site when resolving conflicts with the strictly protected rodent, for example in agriculture or in road traffic.

The beaver has become at home again in large parts of Baden-Württemberg – including in the administrative district of Freiburg. “The beaver is returning here to a landscape that has been heavily influenced and changed by humans. As a result, conflicts are increasingly occurring, which need to be resolved through effective and forward-looking beaver management,” explains Tobias Kock, who is responsible for species protection in the regional council: “We need practical and situation-related solutions.” These include the professional beaver representatives appointed by the RP as well as The urban and rural nature conservation authorities rely on the support of volunteer beaver advisors.

The two-day course includes a theoretical training day and a practical day in the field. The necessary knowledge of beaver biology as well as the options for prevention and conflict resolution are conveyed. The course will take place on November 18th and 25th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If necessary, an alternative date for the field day will be offered on December 9th. The number of participants is limited.

In order to then be able to work as a volunteer beaver advisor, an appointment from the responsible lower nature conservation authority in the respective district is necessary. To register and for further information, interested parties can contact the RP by November 15th at the latest: [email protected]. Tobias Kock (0761/208-4223) and Janina Heck (0761/208-4156) are available to provide information by telephone.
