Because the Board of Directors is not deducted from salary

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

President Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero) Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) suggests it’s natural for workers to be angry about the plan payroll deductions. The reason is that the salaries of the directors and commissioners are not deducted.

Ahok said management only plans to cut employee salaries. Meanwhile, the salaries of directors and commissioners remain intact. Management reasoned that cutting employee salaries was for company efficiency.

He admitted that he did not agree with this because the cuts were only made at the employee level. “He said it was (efficiency). It shouldn’t be, because the directors and commissioners were not deducted (salary),” Ahok said to CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (22/12).

Nevertheless, he confirmed the new employee salary cuts plan. According to him, there has been no official decision regarding this matter. “There is no (salary deduction). The management does have a plan,” Ahok added.

The former governor of DKI Jakarta admitted that he had warned that the management of salary cuts should start from the directors. That way, it’s not only lower-level employees who are subject to pay cuts.

“I have said that if there is a salary cut, it must start from the directors, it can’t just be employees who work from home,” Ahok explained.

Previously, Head of Media Division of the United Pertamina Workers Union Federation (FSPPB) Captain Marcellus Hakeng Jayawibawa said Pertamina directors decided to cut employee salaries in the midst of implementing work from home (WFH) or working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Hakeng, a new employee salary cut decision was released by the management. This is one of the reasons the unions will go on strike.

“Suddenly without good communication to internal workers, the directors issued a policy of cutting our salaries because they were considered working from home,” said Hakeng.

He considered the salary cuts unrealistic. The reason is, the need for employee costs increases because they have to buy additional internet quota to be able to work from home.

“Those things should be a concern, not reduced. For example, school children can only get internet quota, if we reduce welfare,” said Hakeng.

Moreover, added Hakeng, the cuts were made after there was no salary increase in the last two years. Therefore, trade unions need to communicate with Pertamina’s directors.

For information, the FSPPB stated that it would carry out a strike on November 29, 2021 and January 7, 2022.

This action was carried out in order to urge the Minister of SOEs to remove Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati.
