Captain America: New World Order it will not be released in theaters until May 1, 2024. However, things are going well for this production which will star Sam Wilson aka Falcon, played on screen by Anthony Mackie. We have already seen the latter at work in the Disney + series Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Captain America 4 director defends Sam Wilson
However, the choice of this character to succeed Steve Rogers as Captain America is causing criticism. Some believe that this protagonist falls short of the previous “Cap”, while another party simply does not accept that this role should be assigned to a black superhero.
During the last D23 Expo organized by Disney, the director of this feature film Julius Onah was asked. He asks viewers to be a little patient before making a judgment:
First, wait until you see this movie. So I think if anyone is wondering why someone like Anthony Mackie or Sam Wilson should be at the center of it all, you have to go back to what Captain America stands for. It is so good to have a character who stands up for what is right and to think of a world that everyone can belong to. This is exactly what Captain America is. So there’s really nothing to take away, just things to celebrate, and all these people should feel invited to celebrate it.
It is still too early to be interested in the plot of this Captain America 4. We remember, however, that in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the hero already faces problems of racism and that racial themes are mentioned. The director therefore believes that Marvel fans should give this character a chance, who could establish himself as one of the great figures of the MCU in the future.
