Because of time collision: Küng has to bury World Cup dream

The World Cycling Championships in Switzerland (September 20-27) will take place in Martigny / Aigle as planned. “We are looking forward to a real highlight,” says OK boss Grégory Devaud. Stefan Küng (26), the best Swiss professional cyclist, shouldn’t jump in the air. Why? Because the world cycling association UCI is sticking to the original program – in other words with the time trial of the elite men on September 20th. Then Küng drives the final stage of the Tour de France. “I’m sorry for Stefan,” says Devaud. A postponement of the race to Wednesday is not planned – also for logistical reasons.

One thing is certain: The World Cup will take place with an audience – but under rigid security standards. Checks, masks and disinfectants should be standard. “Nevertheless, we cordially invite everyone,” said Dévaud. The Swiss Road Championship will take place on August 22nd on the circuit of the World Cup course. Both are not for Küng because they are too mountainous.
