Because of Omicron, UK Record Highest Daily Case of COVID-19

Jakarta

The Omicron variant is said to be the trigger for the return of the wave of COVID-19 cases in the UK. On Wednesday (15/12/2021), the UK reported a record 78,610 new COVID-19 cases.

The UK’s previous daily COVID-19 record was set on 8 January 2021 with 68,053 cases. The UK’s chief medical expert, Professor Chris Whitty, said it was likely that in the future the daily cases of COVID-19 would continue to rise.

“I’m afraid we have to be realistic, there will be many records being broken over the next few weeks because the cases will continue to rise,” said Prof Chris as quoted from BBC, Thursday (16/12/2021).

The UK reported the number of hospital occupancy (hospital) has increased by about 10.4 percent. While the vast majority of people infected with Omicron have mild symptoms, the speed with which the variant is spreading is said to be phenomenal.

“Omicron is a very serious threat right now. How serious is it? Still we don’t know, but for what we know it’s bad,” said Prof Chris.

“One thing that is fundamental is the speed of its spread. This variant spreads at a phenomenal speed,” he concluded.
