Because of Mick: Now even Ralf Schumacher is losing patience

For Mick Schumacher (25), the dream of Formula 1 has long been characterized by setbacks. After two years in the Haas, the second year in the premier class of motorsport without the son of Michael Schumacher (55) is coming to an end.

In the meantime, Mick kept hoping for another chance and often looked at cockpits that had become available due to expulsions or short-term cancellations. However: There was always a hail of rejections, and the last opportunity at Sauber is now off the table. A constellation that even discourages Uncle Ralf Schumacher (49).

Mick Schumacher still active in the World Endurance Championship?

The Sky expert said on Wednesday (November 6, 2024): “For Mick, the topic of Formula 1 is unfortunately rather unrealistic, unless someone is unavailable due to illness.”

Formula 1 may be a “crazy business”, but Ralf Schumacher now sees another career turnaround for his nephew as becoming increasingly distant. He had also patiently hoped with Mick for a long time before the final disappointment followed. Only a substitute driver role is currently possible.

Ralf can even understand why Sauber, which will be racing under the Audi flag from 2026, has signed the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (20) instead of Mick.

“I think it’s good that the team is taking a new path, with a young driver who has won Formula 3 and is currently leading Formula 2,” praised the long-time F1 driver: “That’s a similar level to Oscar Piastri . A driver has to assert himself and then not allow himself to make any mistakes, like Max Verstappen.”

When planning his nephew’s future, Ralf could imagine focusing on the long-distance career he started this year. Mick had shown increasing form in the WEC series and, after a stuttering start, had recently regularly finished in the points.

Mick’s previous record in Formula 1 shows 43 races in which he scored twelve championship points in the Haas. Just in his second season, Mick fell out of favor with his team due to several expensive training and qualifying accidents and was then replaced by his experienced compatriot Nico Hülkenberg (37).
