It will take some time before calm returns to the Bernese Oberland.

Can there only be one? Not in Sigriswil in the Bernese Oberland. From now on there are two local SVP parties. The normal SVP, in which, among other things, former National Councilor Adrian Amstutz (66) politicized – and the new “SVP Sigriswil 2020”.
–
The reason for the split is Madeleine Amstutz (41), head of the SVP parliamentary group in the Bernese Grand Council. Madeleine Amstutz made headlines in early June, after LOOK made public that in her position as mayor of Sigriswil she was mainly on the road as an “expense knight”. Critics accused her of having received too many expenses and not always adhering to official channels. So she added events such as the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen to the expense account – even though she was invited. In part, she is said to have even charged expenses for attending funerals.
–
SVP no longer wanted them
Amstutz rejected the allegations and sought election to the local council. The existing SVP local party did not put them on their electoral list. Then there was speculation that Amstutz could run as a wild candidate or on the list of another party.

Amstutz is now taking a different path: she and her companions founded the new “SVP Sigriswil 2020”, as she announced on Monday. The new local party takes part in the municipal elections on September 27th with three women and three men. (SDA / sf)
