However, the practical effects are limited. Even in the special situation, the Federal Council has far-reaching competencies in accordance with the Epidemic Act, for example to close shops and schools. However, he is again obliged to consult the cantons before making a decision. He did that in an exceptional situation, but on a voluntary basis. The previous temporary measures taken under emergency law remain valid.
In any case, the cantons welcome the move: With the end of the extraordinary situation, they could decide to take their own measures again, said Christian Rathgeb, the future president of the conference of the cantonal governments, on Monday.
However, it is possible that the time in the Federal Council will still be discussed. In view of the low number of corona infections in Switzerland for days, a faster exit from the extraordinary situation would be epidemiologically justifiable. However, the Federal Council must ensure that it does not overlook any legal pitfalls.
The Federal Council will also decide on the next easing measures on Wednesday. As various sources confirm, meetings of up to 30 people should be possible again from June 8, and the restrictions for restaurants should also be softened. With protection concepts, even events with up to 300 people should be allowed again, such as weddings, theater performances and even school camps.
It is crucial that the hygiene and distance measures are observed and the participants are known, it says in Bern. Thanks to the contact details, in the event of a corona infection, the detection of vulnerable people can be ensured and the spread prevented.
It was already known that the Federal Council also plans to open swimming pools, zoos, cinemas, mountain railways and campsites and resume face-to-face classes at vocational, middle and high schools on June 8.
