The US entertainment giant Walt Disney has a huge one due to the corona pandemic Slump in profits suffered. In the three months to the end of March, the surplus declined by more than 90 percent year-on-year to $ 460 million (€ 424 million), as the company announced on Tuesday after the US stock market closed in Burbank, California.
Thanks to booming TV and streaming offerings, revenues rose 21 percent to $ 18 billion. Especially Disney Amusement parks, Holiday resorts and Cruises suffered massively, however – operating profit fell by 58 percent, although the virus crisis only really spread at the end of the quarter. The streaming business with the new Disney + video service grew enormously, but so far has only caused costs. The division’s loss of $ 812 million was more than double the previous year. The stock initially reacted negatively after the exchange.
