After the last award ceremony in 2023, UEFA will no longer choose Europe’s Footballer of the Year, at least temporarily. Until now, the award was always presented at the end of August as part of the European football association’s gala event, which also included the draw for the preliminary round of the Champions League, following a previous vote.
Only the draw is scheduled for Thursday next week, so the usual announcement of a narrower circle of nominees for the individual award has not yet been made. The fact that the silver body trophy will disappear into the UEFA cupboard for the time being has something to do with the Ballon d’Or. The association is now cooperating with the French football magazine FRANCE FOOTBALL, which has been awarding the Golden Ball since 1956.

This was officially announced at the beginning of November 2023. In terms of name, nothing changes with the Ballon d’Or. “UEFA will contribute its football expertise, market the worldwide commercial rights and organise the annual gala event”is it[called
What will be new from now on is that there will also be a trophy for the best male and female coach. Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is a hot contender here as a Champions League winner, Spanish champion and Supercopa winner in the 2023/24 season. The Kopa trophy for the best U21 player, the Yachine trophy for the best goalkeeper, the Gerd Müller trophy for the top scorer of the previous season, the trophies for the best men’s and women’s team and the Sócrates Award for social commitment will continue to be awarded as part of the Ballon d’Or.
