Because of an unauthorized demonstration: police operation in Zurich
On Saturday evening, over 200 people gathered in District 4 for an unauthorized demonstration. The Zurich city police prevented the demonstrators from marching through other city districts and also used water cannons.
Calls were made on various platforms for an unauthorized demonstration in connection with the International Day against Violence against Women. Around 7 p.m., over 200 people gathered in the office area. They then formed a demonstration and marched through various streets in the Langstrasse district. The demonstrators, some of whom were masked, set off pyrotechnic objects.
In order to prevent the march into District 5 and Europaallee, the Zurich city police cordoned off sections of the street and the Langstrasse underpass. When the demonstrators tried to break through the police barrier, water cannons had to be used. The demonstrators then marched on through District 4 towards District 1. At the Sihl, the bridges were cordoned off by emergency services to prevent them from marching into District 1. The procession continued via Stauffacher to Helvetiaplatz. However, when he didn’t want to end there, another march was prevented with water cannons.
After the participants had split into groups, they gathered again on Helvetiaplatz and ended the demonstration at 8:30 p.m. Along the parade route there were various spray-paintings on houses and tram compositions belonging to the VBZ. The damage cannot yet be quantified. (has)
