LIONEL Messi is being closely linked with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after it was confirmed to part ways with Barcelona in the summer of 2021. However, the process of moving Messi to PSG is said to be hindered by Barcelona so it might not happen.
As reported by Barca Universal, Monday (9/8/2021), a report from the media Marca said that Barcelona did not seem too happy with PSG’s approach to signing Messi. As a result, the club nicknamed the Blaugrana filed a complaint for PSG to the European Football Federation (UEFA).
Barcelona objected to UEFA by saying that PSG’s financial condition was worse than that of the Catalan club. In the report, Barcelona said PSG’s wage limit had far exceeded their income.

Currently, the salary ratio at PSG exceeds 99%, while Barcelona is at 54%. This is a gross violation of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. That way, Barcelona claims that the FFP rules must also be considered in the process of recruiting Messi to PSG.

The condition of the salary ratio at PSG is actually not surprising. Because, the French giant club did bring in a lot of star players in the 2021 summer transfer market.
PSG recruited big names, ranging from Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum, to Sergio Ramos. All of them were recruited on a free transfer. Even so, they come with very high salaries.
