Becan a la rianxeira pianist Aida Saco to graduate in New York

Aida Saco Beiroa is a young pianist from Rianxo who, after making her first contact with music at the Lyceum in her native town, expanded her artistic training in Barcelona, Paris and Rotterdam. Now, she has just obtained the only scholarship from the Ministry of Culture Fulbright 2022, in the discipline of Music and Musicology, for the expansion of her artistic studies in the United States. In January she will begin her training with Solomon Mikowsky, considered one of the best piano teachers in the world, at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York.

Trained with the prestigious pianists Josep María Colom and Tensy Krismant at the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona, Bart van de Roer at Codarts-Rotterdam and Maurizio Moretti at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, she was invited by Solomon Mikowsky to carry out postgraduate studies at the aforementioned school.

Aida is a composer for piano and, in addition to having presented two musical projects in numerous auditoriums, her musical work is present at different film festivals: FanCine de Lemos; Kalakari Film Fest (India); Osaka International Film Festival (Japan); BUEIFF Festival (Argentina); T-Short Film Online Festival; RENUAC Festival (Chile); and FECI Bogota. Likewise, she has published two record works: metamorphoses (2017) y Time flies (2019).

As a classical soloist, she performed numerous concerts and was invited to participate in various festivals in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Poland. Winner of the 2020 Artistic Studies Exchange of the A Coruña Provincial Council, the 2021 Excellence Exchange of the Ferret-Salat Foundation, the 2022 Master’s Exchange of the Conservatori Liceu Foundation and, now, of the Ministry of Culture and Sports Scholarship Fulbright 2022, this young promise from Rianxeira was awarded in numerous piano competitions.

Among the distinctions received in professional categories, it is worth highlighting the first awards of the Leonid Sintsev 2019, the IV Premi Ciutat de Mataró, or the 1st European Piano Competition Salentinae Terrae (in this case also with a special prize); the second places in the 10th Concorso Internazionale Città di Massa and the Munich Piano Competition 2021; and the third places in the XII Elisa de Sousa Prize and the City of Seville International Piano Competition in 2021.

In addition, his compositional work was nominated for the V Martín Códax da Música Awards, in the category of Classical and Contemporary Music, and selected as a semifinalist at the MIN 2020 awards.

With this trajectory, it is not surprising that he was a member of the juries of the IX Fran Pérez Contest Narf for musical artists and the Quero Cantar 2018 Contest of the Diputación de A Coruña.

The Manhattan School of Music was founded in 1917-1918 by pianist and philanthropist Janet D. Schenck as a neighborhood School of Music. In 1943, the artistic and academic growth of the school prompted a charter amendment to award a bachelor’s degree in music. Two later modifications authorized the offer in 1947 of the master’s degree in music and, in 1974, of the degree of doctor of musical arts.

Today, the Manhattan School of Music offers a wide variety of live performance experiences for its students. It has 132 practice rooms and 8 performance spaces. There are three main orchestras: the MSM Symphony, the Philharmonic and the Chamber Symphony. In addition, small ensembles for orchestral chamber music are assembled.
