A broken family from California in the USA said their last goodbye this week to eleven-year-old Christina “Tina” Bird.
On Wednesday, the eleven-year-old was declared brain dead from injuries she sustained after colliding with an ATV. The collision also took the life of twelve-year-old Jacob Martinez, who was a close family friend, according to CBS News.
The vehicle that collided with the children left the scene in a hurry. The driver is still not found.
The accident happened Saturday night.
Mora’s bad message
– My daughter Tina, Christina Bird, was taken from us too young, due to a meaningless act, says mother Felicia Nunez.
– After the doctors’ last tests, they came to the conclusion that she is brain dead.
When Tina was declared brain dead, the family decided that they should wait 48 hours before turning off the machines that kept her alive, reports CBS. This so that family and friends could visit her and say a final goodbye.
In the Instagram post, the children are described as very good friends, who always went on holiday together.
I another comprehensive postwritten by Jacob’s uncle, describes the suspected vehicle.
Witnesses said the driver who hit the children did not stop after the accident and left the scene quickly.
Another witness told police that they saw “strange” drivers in an injured yellow ATV coming to their campsite and heard them say that they “had to get away”.
