In Beautiful world tells Andy about the moment he first sees Melisa: “I first saw her in my favorite bar and thought she was arrogant, but also fascinating.” The bad first impression does not stop the ex-footballer from maintaining contact. “We exchanged numbers and after three days of pinging our BlackBerrys she said, ‘Would you like to join me for dinner?’ We talked, ate and from then on it was pretty clear. Don’t ask me how, but we both knew we were going to stay together.”
It also doesn’t take long for the lovebirds to decide to move in together. “After three months I moved in with her in Apeldoorn, a year later we had a child.” Andy sees Melisa as more than just his partner, she is also his best friend. “We can talk about everything, including exes and things like that. And make jokes, eh. I always have fun with her.” Melisa also ‘saves’ him from the ‘strange life’ he leads in Amsterdam. “When I lived there, it was just walking, eating, drinking and walking again, eating and drinking.”
The couple married in 2014 in community of property, in 2015 they separated on paper. They do this to keep the exes of the former professional football player at bay. After a divorce, Andy’s exes can no longer claim Melisa’s money.
Andy and Melisa have two daughters together. Andy also has three daughters from previous relationships, Melisa a son.
