Beatriz Storm: Capturing the Beauty of Everyday Life and Winter Retreats in Madrid and Beyond

“In winter I like the pause, the feeling of retreat and the duvet”. This is the most homely season of the year for Beatriz Stormphotographer by vocation, inveterate traveler by choice. Despite always walking around with her suitcase packed and her camera in tow, she is not shy about stating that Madrid is his favorite city. Here he was born, grew up and photographed from the age of 17 until he had no more corners left, which there always are. “When I was a teenager I began to develop interest in the harmonious, the aestheticand I would even say that I began to be more aware of my sensitivity,” he recalls while revealing how his path led towards Sociology until he came across a camera by chance.

And since then, he has not been able to stop portraying the world and, above all, the flowers that flood it – also in winter –although he dares to choose, not the flowers, but the present as his favorite muse: “What I enjoy photographing most is the everyday life, the beauty of what is simple and what is always there”.

It is logical to think that travel and photography are linked by that red thread of destiny, but, for Beatriz, traveling is not just putting yourself behind the objective, but almost a life jacket, a rescue mission to their creative crises. Maybe that’s why his suitcase is obviously never lacking in a camera, but neither are there any shoes for walking… Or escaping.

And it is clear that, If I fled to a country, it would be Japan; to a landscape, it would be Yosemite National Park, and to a city, it would be Amsterdam. The latter is now his second home, to which he always goes and to which he always returns. And she does it to walk through the De Pijp neighborhood – her favorite of his –, have breakfast at Coffee & Coconuts and eat at Pho 91; also explore the canals of the Jordaan neighborhood and get lost in any street that includes decoration, design and second-hand shops.

Amsterdam is now Beatriz’s second home.

In any case, he is clear that his perfect trip is the one “where you know the places walking everywhere, you eat delicious food and drink specialty coffee”, and that’s a lot about Madrid in winter, which is always a trip even if it’s home. Therefore, for Beatriz, sheltering from the cold in the capital means letting herself be guided by her coffee nose until she reaches Climate Cafecito, Wilko CoffeeMisión Café or Casa Neutrale and there immerse yourself in a huge cup that warms your body and soul.

Even with his heart in his city, he does not lose sight of his list of pending destinations, which includes places like Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Egypt and Norway. In this string of traveling desires, Beatriz is the genie, and her camera is the lamp that makes them come true by photographing the world from all angles.

It was in 2015 when he managed to turn his hobby into a profession and, although he thinks that “what stimulates you changes as you yourself do with age”, there is something that he hopes will never change: “My biggest challenge is to continue living from photography until I get old”. And so be it.
