Beaten by Trump on the inside, Huawei focuses on survival

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Huawei Technologies management said the company is currently in survival mode after being attacked by the Donald Trump administration, which threatens to threaten the company to major technology.

“Huawei is in a difficult situation lately. The relentless aggression from the US government has put us under significant pressure,” said Rotating Chief Executive Guo Ping as quoted by CNN International, Thursday (9/24/2020).

“Right now, survival is our goal,” said Guo Ping.

The United States has indeed increased its pressure on Huawei by issuing new sanctions in May and August that made access to chip companies capable of producing smartphones, 5G network equipment and other products even more difficult.

Semiconductor companies that use US software and technology to design and manufacture chips can no longer sell to Huawei without a special license from the US Department of Commerce.

This policy was created because the Trump Administration accused Huawei of posing a national security risk, accusing the Chinese government of using Huawei equipment for spying (espionage). Huawei has repeatedly denied the talks.

For many analysts the latest US sanctions have paralyzed Huawei’s supply chain, this is like a ‘death blow’ and ‘death penalty’ for the company.

“The United States is constantly attacking us and [pembatasan terbaru] is a huge challenge for our operation, “Guo told reporters.

After these sanctions were imposed in May 2020, Huawei had to face the threat of a boycott of its products. In July Britain decided to ban Huawei from participating in 5G infrastructure construction, overturning a decision earlier in the year allowing limited participation.

The United States is also actively approaching its allies not to use Huawei products. Currently only Canada, a member of intelligence cooperation called Five Eyes, has not issued a policy regarding the use of Huawei’s 5G products. Australia, New Zealand, UK have issued bans.
