Beat World Champion, Jojo Against Chico in Semifinal

KOMPAS.com – Indonesian men’s singles Jonathan Christie advance to the semifinals of the Badminton Asia Championship or Asian Badminton Championship 2022.

Jonathan Christie advances to the last four after beating the world champion from Singapore Loh Kean Yew in the quarter-finals on Friday (29/4/2022).

Competing at Muntinlupa Sports Complex, Manila, Philippines, Jonathan won two straight games with a tight score of 22-20 and 23-21.

Jojo’s success at the same time ensures “all Indonesian semifinal” materialized. Jonathan will compete against his compatriot Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.

The course of the match

Jonathan trailed 0-3 to Loh Kean Yew at the start of the first game. The badminton player who is familiarly called Jojo continues to be three points away from Loh Kean Yew in the 3-6 position.

Jojo could then equalize the score to the same 6. However, Loh Kean Yew managed to suppress Jojo’s number six.

Meanwhile, the 2021 world champion continued to advance and regained a 9-6 lead over Jojo. On the other hand, Jojo was again able to stick to Loh Kean Yew’s points acquisition to 9-9.

However, Jojo could not take advantage of the momentum and was still 9-11 behind in the first game interval.

Loh Kean Yew still led 15-12 after the break. However, Jojo was again able to equalize to 15 equal.
