It’s not easy to escape strong heat during the summer period… As new heat waves loom this summer, the City of Montauban has taken various measures to combat global warming and allow its inhabitants to cool off. Anthology.

# Drinking water points

For visitors who are in the city center or on the outskirts and who wish to refresh themselves, Montauban first offers various drinking water points. Find out where to find them below, or in the interactive map from the City’s website.

# The gardens open 24 hours a day

Parks et gardens are also an ideal place to cool off, while enjoying a green setting. On either side of the Tescou, the Garden of plants de Montauban offers in particular three hectares planted with giant sequoia, Virginia tulip tree and even Chinese cephalotaxus which provide freshness.

Note that, unlike Toulouse, all parks and gardens of the City of Montauban (Jardin des Plantes, Roseraie, Cours Foucault, etc.) are open to the public 24 hours a day.

# Place Nationale and its new water mirror

Active between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., the water mirror of the Place Nationale – installed during the redevelopment of the place in 2022 – will delight young and old alike. With its misters, jets and water mirror, it really refreshes the space.

“A cool point which lowers the air temperature by a few degrees in this emblematic place,” claims the municipality. Be careful, however: although young and old can play there and cool off, the water that emerges from the place is not not drinkable and “a few rules must be respected for the comfort of all”, warns the town hall.

# Roosevelt Square (and its other reflecting pool!)

Also recently renovated, the place Roosevelt, at the foot of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Cathedral, is a place steeped in history in the heart of the city. “It was the subject of an embellishment which proved very useful during periods of extreme heat”, in the eyes of the community.

Roosevelt Square also benefits from a new water mirror, but also a “green setting made up of no less than 3,000 plants, 300 shrubs and 25 trees”, which bring “shade and freshness” to the site.

# Port Canal, the bubble of freshness

A real bubble of freshness in the summer season, Port Canal welcomes visitors in search of walksof boat trips, or simply to cool off thanks to these dedicated spaces in this festive place. Sport, leisure and relaxation are the key words of summer here.

# Several streets shaded by curtains

In order to compensate for heat and solar exposure in the city center, shade sails will appear in the streets to provide shade to passers-by in the streets of the Cité d’Ingres, as is planned in Toulouse, notably rue d’Alsace-Lorraine.

In Montauban, these sheers will be installed on rue de la République and rue de la Résistance, rue Michelet, in the aptly named rue Fraîche, or even rue du Greffe and rue d’Auriol. The Town Hall square will also benefit from these stretched canvases, “so that wedding ceremonies take place in the best possible conditions”, reports the town hall.

# Museums and other cultural establishments

As the first strong heat of summer looms, the museums, the Mémo, the Old College… remain must-see places during this summer period. Numerous exhibitions await you in these air-conditioned or naturally cooled places, such as the medieval rooms of the Ingres Bourdelle museum, where the temperature is naturally around 20°C!

# The aquatic complex and its pools

Finally, Ingreomakes its outdoor spaces available over wide time slots during the summer period: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In this vast aquatic and fun areavisitors will be able to enjoy the 2700 m² of waterbut also dedicated spaces, grassy beaches, the Olympic swimming pool, four pools, solariums, with also points of sale for cold drinks… While the site has just been change hands after signing a new public service delegation contract with Récréa, the town hall promises “new activities from this summer”.
