Jakarta, Selular.ID – Samsung seems to be the toughest rival for Intel for now. This is because a recent report from IC Insights revealed that Samsung had overtaken Intel to become the world’s largest semiconductor supplier in Q2 2022. The report also said that Mediatek and Nvidia witnessed significant growth, while Intel, TSMC, and Qualcomm did not. many.
According to the IC Insights report, Samsung’s market share in the semiconductor market has soared due to increased demand and prices for DRAM and flash memory. The company’s sales increased 19% in the second quarter of 2022 to $20.3 billion.
This helped the South Korean giant to beat Intel in leading the global semiconductor market. In fact, Samsung is expected to further widen its gap with its American rivals, growing by over 10% to $22.3 billion in Q3 2021.
For your information, Samsung was ranked as the top semiconductor supplier throughout 2017 and 2018, when the memory market experienced its last cyclical increase. During that time, the company’s sales exceeded $20.0 billion during the peak of memory upgrades in 2018.

Talking about another slick performance in Q2 2021, MediaTek and Nvidia sales increased 17% and 14% respectively. The former benefit from the data center and gaming industry. On the other hand, the latter is growing due to the strong demand for 5G smartphones.
Memory suppliers such as Sk Hynix and Micron also saw growth of 21% and 16%, respectively. However, their position has not changed in the top 10 list. In fact, big players like Intel, TSMC, Qualcomm only grew 3% in the same duration.
Also, Broadcom only saw a 1% increase in its sales. Overall, sales of the top 10 semiconductor suppliers rose 10% to $95.5 billion in the second quarter of 2022.
