The National Theater Company staged this love story written by Bárbara Colio
The memory of first love is very difficult to erase and when it is forever and we promise never to forget, our own limits can be transgressed. The play Beat tells us a very particular love story, because in this one, our protagonists are already at the end of their own story. Vladimir and Corazón met when they were young in the alley behind an old factory, their first meeting full of emotion and a chase created a bond difficult to break.
These characters, played by Luisa Huertas and Marco Antonio García, make timeless leaps to tell us their story, going to various moments in the past so that we can better understand their present, which takes place in an asylum, when Corazón has memory failures and Vladimir takes risks. all for her.
The Bárbara Colio staging, originally directed by Debbie Hannan and now traced by Luis Rivera, emerged from the International Program for New Dramaturgy at the Royal Court Theater in Mexico. It has set and costume design by Mario Marín del Río, lighting by Matías Gorlero and sound design by Rodrigo Espinosa.
In addition to the endearing love story, the play reminds us of what many seniors face, whether due to family abandonment, lack of resources or health complications; it is an important situation that should not be left behind and it is still part of our stories.
