In the apocalyptic book adaptation The Midnight Sky we see Clooney as the scientist Augustine Lofthouse, who is stationed at a remote polar research station. Lofthouse has cancer and may be the last man on Earth. In his approached situation, he tries to warn a returning space research team that has traveled to Jupiter about what has happened on Earth.
