Authorities say the number of bears is increasing every year in New York State

A 7-year-old boy was attacked by a black bear outside the family home in suburban New York before being rescued by his parents at the last minute before he was seriously injured. Miraculously, the child’s life is not in danger.

The child was hospitalized but his injuries are superficial. The child was playing with his brother in the garden of the family home in Bedford when the attack happened. The local police chief hailed the parents’ reaction, calling it “extremely courageous”.

The boy’s mother, who is a doctor, provided her son with first aid until emergency services arrived. Authorities say the number of bears is increasing every year in New York state, but such attacks are considered relatively rare.
