All beaches in Brooklyn and Queens, except Jacob Riis Beach, will be closed to swimming Saturday and Sunday in anticipation of dangerous currents caused by Tropical Storm Ernesto, according to city and national parks officials.
New York City Parks Department staff as well as lifeguards will be stationed along the shore to prevent swimming, officials said.
“In consultation with our sister agency, the National Park Service (NPS) and based on the conditions expected by the National Weather Service, Parks is closing Brooklyn and Queens beaches to swimming. -tomorrow and Sunday.” New York Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue said in a statement. “Lifeguards will be on duty and patrolling the beaches, and we strongly urge New Yorkers not to their lives at risk by ignoring this instruction.”
The National Weather Service is forecasting a dangerous threat right now with storm surges of up to six feet possible Saturday and Sunday.

Mayor Eric Adams warned New Yorkers not to take chances.
“Our main goal is to keep New Yorkers safe, and as the effects of Tropical Storm Ernesto approach New York City, we are closing our beaches in Queens and Brooklyn this weekend until New York.” protect Yorkers from dangerous currents,” Adams said in his statement Friday. “New Yorkers should know that the ocean is more powerful than you, especially this weekend.
