Schweiner and Perusic had reason to rejoice.
“We still don’t realize we’ve won such a big tournament. I can’t really describe my emotions much,” Schweiner told reporters.
From the beginning, the Czech pair managed to eliminate the 2017 world champion Evandra, who is one of the best sweepers on the circuit with 210 centimeters, and he is also adorned with a hard serve. Schweiner was successful on the net, while Perušič trampled the Brazilians with great interventions in the field.
The Czechs, who lost a single set for the entire tournament and scored several valuable scalps, were aiming for an unexpectedly easy win for a long time. At 17:12, however, Schweiner became nervous, and after his unforced errors, the Brazilians equalized. However, the fourteenth seeded couple did not allow themselves to take life success. “We made a few forced mistakes, mainly on my loss. Otherwise there was not much to complain about. There is a small bonus that we did not lose even once during the match,” Schweiner said.

“With the end of the second set approaching, we were nervous about a possible victory and it was difficult to concentrate, but fortunately we finally made it,” Perušič said in an interview on the court. “We didn’t have any fluctuations during the whole tournament, except for my failure in the second set of the final,” Schweiner added.
Twenty-six-year-old Perušič and Schweiner succeeded in the final of the elite series on the third attempt. They won silver three years ago in Mersin and the year before last in Ostrava. They won $ 20,000 for winning on the Qatari sand and scored 800 points in the rankings.
They also took a big step towards the Tokyo Olympics. “I don’t mean that it gives us 100% certainty, but the chances of qualifying are much higher. We still have a few tournaments to improve our rankings. The opponents we’re fighting for a place will be under more pressure. We rely on a good result, Schweiner said.
Together they played the first foreign tournament after 16 months. The last time they were together was in the fall of 2019 in Mexico. “We didn’t know how it would work, how we would play. We had minor injuries last year. We were really expecting. It turned out the best we could,” Schweiner smiled.
Successful preparation is behind the success. They spent two months in Rome and two months in Tenerife. “It must have been reflected in the game,” Schweiner said.
So far, only women of the Czech beach volleyball players have enjoyed the victory on the World Circuit. Markéta Nausch Sluková triumphed four times with Barbora Hermann and twice with Kristýna Hoidarová Kolocová. Hermann also has one triumph with Martina Williams Bonner.
The international beach volleyball scene has resumed in Doha after a six-month hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament in the Qatari metropolis took place without fans and under strict measures.
Among women, Markéta Nausch Sluková and Barbora Hermannová took 17th place, Michala Kvapilová and Michaela Kubíčková shared 25th place. The first place was celebrated by the Americans Alix Klineman and April Ross.
