Latvian beach volleyball players Kristians Fokerots / Kārlis Ābelītis reached the final of the European U-18 Championship in Izmir on Sunday, thus Latvia will have the prize in the continental youth championship for the second week in a row.
Fokerots / Ābelītis, who were sown with the eighth number, beat the Russians Yegor Zharovin / Vitaly Markov (27th) in the semi-final match with the result 2-1 (21:17, 10:21, 15:11).
In the final at 5 pm, the 12th issue of the championship, Jevhenijs Boiko / Vladislavs Omļčuks from Ukraine, will face them.
Laura Iecelnieks’ students Fokerots / Ābelītis won only one of the three games in their subgroup, but in the playoffs, Latvians fight without losses.
Sandis Bērziņš / Dāvis Teteris and Katrīna Lukstiņa / Terēze Estere Grants from the Latvians withdrew from the sub-group in the first round of the play-off, but Kate Vasiljeva / Elīza Dreimane did not leave the subgroup.
Last year, Varvara Brailko and Anete Namiķe took the 5th place in the European U-18 Championship in the Austrian city of Baden, while Trent Jankovskis and Ralf Namiķis took the 9th place. Brailko / Namiķe was crowned European U-20 age group champions last week.
Another European Youth Championship in Izmir will take place next week, when the U-22 competition will take place there from 23 to 27 September.
