Tahiti, October 17, 2024 – The Tahiti beach tennis association is organizing the second Tahiti International Open on Saturday and Sunday at Paofai Park. Labeled ITF, the event will bring together around a hundred competitors including a dozen visitors.
Beach tennis, federated locally by the Beach Tennis Tahiti association, member of the Tahitian Tennis Federation, has been developing slowly but surely for several years. Chaired by Yankell Clavery, who is behind the launch of the discipline at Fenua, the association is increasing its promotional activities to encourage the practice of beach tennis in Tahiti. If the discipline currently has around a hundred licensees, the number of practitioners is much higher as demonstrated by Yankell Clavery: “In particular, we have more and more padel players who are interested in our sport and this is also the case for tennis. We regularly intervene in schools and in neighborhood events. A club was set up in Taravao through tennis and the installation of a small beach court. Now, we need lasting facilities that would facilitate our development. We are currently in discussions with the Papeete town hall and the Ministry of Sports to find a spot dedicated to beach tennis.”
The Tahiti International Open created in 2023 is for promotional purposes and the first two days of the event, Thursday and Friday, were devoted to youth and partner tournaments.
