Rudis Gallo, coach of the Selecta men’s beach team, took notes and shared some of his assessments about the performance of the national team in the El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup 2024, which was played from March 28 to 30 at the Costa del Sol National Stadium.
The national beach team, beneficiary of the Effort and Glory Program, closed its participation in the international quadrangular with a defeat against Morocco and the United States plus a victory against Switzerland, a duel in which Agustín Ruiz had an outstanding participation, who returned to the Blue and White after more than a year and a half of absence due to injuries and personal issues.
“They come motivated and that is what I need, for them to come with that warrior spirit as this team has always been. Rubén Batres has to refine, but he has a lot of will and there will be a while with this team, but as Salvadorans we must have a little patience because sometimes the results do not happen and the previous games have not been lost because we played badly, but because we the definition has been missing. This is beach soccer and we have to continue preparing,” explained the coach.
At the close of the El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup, Gallo also emphasized that they faced teams with a lot of training, while they did not have the ideal time.
“I feel happy for the boys and I am asking for a little better attention to the team, I feel that the authorities are being neglected, because we need more attention, it cannot be that we come to a competition of this nature with a very long period short of preparation and here is Switzerland, which has just become champion of the Euro Beach Soccer; “Morocco, which has just won a Cup in Africa, and the United States, which has just won the World Cup in Dubai,” said the coach.
In the opinion of the Usuluteco coach, the national team has a job and can give results with better work. “Beach soccer can no longer stop at the global level or at the level of El Salvador, if we are on this path with this wonderful setting and this wonderful fans, we must strive to put on a better show,” he considered.
“It wasn’t the best result in terms of the scoreboard, but I am happy because the team has done a good job, but in the end it didn’t achieve the expected results, that is another thing and football is like that. We have to work a lot,” he reinforced.
The National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES) in coordination with Beach Soccer Worldwide organized the tournament for the second time, which served as a good check for the beach team for future official competitions.
INDES also maintains the commitment to support both the men’s and women’s beach soccer teams with the government economic stimulus which is delivered month after month.
Rudis Gallo spoke of a possible readjustment in the work plan of the beach team to give more competition to the group. “First, God presents a readjustment of the annual plan to resume activities and training processes to see if I can go to a camp in South America because I need to train these new guys and recover the rhythm of Rubén Batres and del Tín. We had not competed since the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023,” he recalled.
“The national team has its job, but things didn’t work out for us in the definition part. I hope that attention is given to this team, because we deserve it and these fans deserve respect and the national teams must be better served to move forward because next year there are the World Cup qualifiers and there is the World Cup too,” he added.
