Beach chairs and open-air cinema on Museum Island – the Summer Berlinale has started in Berlin.
Films that were awarded prizes at the online Berlinale in March will be shown in 16 locations in the capital until June 20.
The falling number of new coronavirus infections gives hope, but international stars have hardly come to Berlin so far – the artistic director Carlo Chatrian said, “We want to be inspired by the summer mood.”
Minister Monika Grütters emphasized that the Summer Berlinale was primarily there for the public. The Minister of State for Culture and Media said: “First and foremost, we want to roll out the red carpet for the public. Because that’s what it’s all about, people get together in front of the screen a bit like a campfire to share stories with each other. We missed it. We’ll enjoy it – like maybe seldom before. “
“Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn” by Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude won the Golden Bear at the online Berlinale in March.
