Now that Daniel Craig is leaving the role of James Bond after 15 years playing one of the best Bond ever, there is a “Bond void” to fill. At IGN Spain we recently developed a list of possible candidates to pick up Craig’s batonEven Henry Cavill showed his interest in the 007 franchise. However, we never imagined that Dwayne Johnson (The Rock, Fast & Furious) would propose himself to be the next Bond.
In an interview for Esquire, Johnson spoke of his connection to the Bond universe. Turns out his grandfather, Peter Maiva, was a Bond villain in We only live Twice, where he played a villain trying to kill Bond with a mix of wrestling moves and a katana … to no avail, obviously. “Yes, my grandfather was a Bond villain in You Only Live Twice with Sean Connery“said Johnson.”[Era] very very cool. And I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond“.
And he emphasizes: “I don’t want to be a villain. I have to be Bond“It couldn’t have been clearer. Although fans surely appreciate Dwayne Johnson’s interest, there is a long list of best candidates to play the character. The three favorites are Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill and Idris Elba, and at IGN Spain we proposed others like Cillian Murphy and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Who will be the next Bond has yet to be revealed and there has been a lot of debate about the possibility of it being a woman for the first time. We will have to wait for those responsible for the franchise to make a decision.
