The Elsan group is present throughout France. A basis which allows it “to observe very closely the health situation and its territorial contrasts”, explains its president Thierry Chiche. In Moselle, “which remains one of the departments where the situation is worrying, we are adopting a pragmatic approach: continuing to provide care for patients who suffer from other pathologies, because this is essential. But be ready to deprogram whenever necessary to deal with the pandemic, in conjunction with the regional health agency and our partners in the public hospital. “

From Thionville to Mercy
Thus, the Metz clinic Claude-Bernard is currently continuing its activity, in particular cardiac surgery, but has “made room in the intensive care unit and has rearranged the space to accommodate Covid patients in secure conditions. Today, the department is full, with half devoted to surgery and the other to Covid patients. In addition to that, one of our medical services was also devoted to welcoming Covid patients, ie 22 beds, ”further details Thierry Chiche.
To cope, the group also reactivated the protocol that had been put in place during the first wave in spring 2020: “A complete hospitalization service at the Notre-Dame de Thionville clinic was stopped three weeks ago in order to to be able to redeploy human resources. Currently, five of our nurses are for example in reinforcement at the regional hospital of Metz-Mercy ”, underlines again the boss of Elsan.

Aware that the staff is under severe strain, Thierry Chiche nevertheless underlines and welcomes exemplary mobilization: “If we have to ramp up, we will face it. It’s complicated with fatigue and increased pressure. But there is also hope with the progress of the vaccination campaign. We take an active part in it, for example with 2,000 people vaccinated in Metz and Thionville on the first weekend of March. The end of the tunnel can now be seen. “
