The European Commission’s report was released on Wednesday and the Left Bloc MEP, José Gusmão, did not like the repairs made by Brussels in the middle of the pandemic crisis and made it known in publications on Facebook and Twitter. “They are already building the narrative. Facts don’t matter, ”wrote the MEP before referring to EC officials as“ animals ”.
It doesn’t matter that the debt increased by 31pp when these animals were here and that it decreased by 10pp when Geringonça undid their nonsense ”, he wrote.

At stake are the reports of the official evaluators of the European Commission who pointed out, in the study on the 11th creditor assessment mission to Portugal’s post-adjustment program, four areas in which the country was already weakened, even before the influence and the economic effects of the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic: civil service wages; pensions; health expenditure and, finally, the risks to financial stability – with a special focus on new credits for home purchase and consumption.
Contacted by the Observer, the MEP declined to comment on the post which, minutes after being published, was changed on Facebook, replacing the expression “these animals” with “these people”. José Gusmão explained the reason for this change on Twitter: “An animal rights activist drew my attention to the derogatory use of the word“ animals ”. I already do penance. It won’t happen again… ”, quips the MEP.
