On June 18, Hellmut Lotti, charming and operetta singer, added an “l” to his first name, put on leather pants and transformed into Hellmut in reference to hell (“hell” in English). This electric inferno sets the Graspop Metal Meeting festival on fire with energizing covers of Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple and others I Was Made For Lovin’ You they Kiss. “I had planned only one concert in this formula which is almost part of a gag. I never would have imagined such enthusiasm and here I am today on Hellmut Lotti Goes Metal tour throughout Belgium”, confides the singer to Luc Lorfèvre, journalist at Moustique and half of the duo piloting Be Loft Sessions, the other being Jody Bau.
Hellmut looks back with great humor and humility on this final career twist. “My younger brother collected metal records. I drew from his music library to assemble this repertoire. Vocally and technically, it’s not easy to hold the note on certain titles, notably those of Guns N’ Roses. I worked a lot. I was particularly touched by the way my project was perceived by the metal community. These people are passionate. Their welcome at Graspop validated my project. It was not won.”
After submitting Hellmut to a successful “100 metal” quiz, the team from Be Loft Sessions – a 100% Belgian musical monthly – takes the direction of Volta, an alternative club in the capital. It is here that Juicy rehearses his farewell concert (rather a goodbye) which he will give on November 4 at the Ancienne Belgique. After nine years of intense collaboration, and more than 600 shows, Julie Rens and Sasha Vovk have decided to take a well-deserved break. They explain the reasons while revealing in piano-voice an extract from “Cruellesformes”, a new EP in French concocted with ECHT!, the trendy jazz combo. Juicy and Hellmut in the same program, isn’t the Belgian scene beautiful?
