The messaging service WhatsApp regularly releases new features to improve your user experience. These often appear as new buttons or switches on your smartphones.

The fan blog WABetaInfo has now discovered a new switch in the WhatsApp beta 2.24.19.12 for Android. This is in the new settings for contacts. The new switch for “WhatsApp contacts” can be turned on and off.

Switch for “WhatsApp contacts”

As soon as you activate the feature using the switch, your contacts will be saved as a backup on WhatsApp. If you change your phone or reinstall WhatsApp, you can access your contacts automatically and quickly without having to re-enter them manually.

You can just as easily reverse this setting and delete the contacts saved on WhatsApp. If you deactivate the switch after activation, a pop-up window will appear informing you that all contacts saved for your WhatsApp account will be deleted.

You have to pay attention to this

After deactivating the “WhatsApp Contacts” feature using the switch, you will no longer be able to edit your contacts from other devices such as laptops or PCs. In addition, they will no longer be automatically transferred to your new devices if you change devices or reinstall the app.

To explain: This switch is related to other new features that allow you to manage contacts from two WhatsApp accounts on one device without them mixing.

According to the screenshots, it allows you to set up backups for an account’s contacts or disconnect them from other devices to prevent unauthorized access – for example, in the event of a stolen, linked laptop.

According to WABetaInfo, this switch, along with other features for account-separated contact management, will be available in a future update on your Android smartphones. Currently, the feature is still in development.
