In order to get the push TAN, the scammers call their victims and pretend to be bank employees. Under a pretext, they are then persuaded to confirm the push TAN. From this moment on, the card is active on the smartphone and the fraudsters can freely spend the money of those affected.
To protect yourself, the police recommend observing the following instructions:
- Only access the online banking website directly via the official web address and not via a search engine
- Do not click on links in emails that claim to come from the bank
- Never give out sensitive information over the phone
- Real bankers never solicit sensitive information over the phone, email, chat or website
- Check which devices and bank cards are stored in online banking for the account
- If in doubt, always contact the official customer support of the bank
Should you nevertheless notice unauthorized debits from your account, you should react quickly. First contact your bank and discuss how to proceed. After that, you should report it to the police.
