Potatoes what a delight! This tuber often stands out on Italian tables as a healthy source of carbohydrates. We all love them, whether they are fried or in the classic puree. But not everyone knows that potatoes can become dangerous when stored in the wrong way.
So beware, this very common food can be bad for your health if stored in this way.
The risks
There are some risks associated with potatoes that are commonly passed down by the grandmothers of the house.
The first is linked to the practice of eating them raw. Potatoes, in fact, contain what are defined as anti-nutritional. That is, elements that block the body’s intake of nutritional elements. To eliminate them and therefore make the tuber safe, simply cook it.
A second practice that we all know is to avoid consuming potatoes in which sprouts have formed. This is because of the solanine. That is a toxic substance that is found in greater concentration when potatoes sprout.
However, there is an additional, very common risk that few people know.
How to store potatoes
One of the major problems related to potatoes is related to the conservation of this product once cooked.
According to some English researches reported by the Food Standard Agency keeping this tuber at room temperature can create the conditions for the development of Botox. It is an extremely dangerous bacterium for the human body. This is because it can give rise to neurological problems and even be fatal in the most serious cases.
The formation of this bacterium in potatoes seems to increase the moment they are kept away from oxygen. The study also pointed out that these bacteria are not suppressed by cooking food in the microwave.
It would therefore be a good habit to keep cooked potatoes in the fridge. And consume them as soon as possible. And always paying attention: this very common food can be bad for your health if not treated correctly.
