Be careful, staying up late can increase the risk of heart failure

KOMPAS.com – Habit stay up late, which many people do, apparently can have a bad impact on health heart.

This behavior of staying up late at night or early in the morning is often considered normal.

Especially for those who have a high busy life so they have to work or do assignments without knowing time.

However, maybe we should not do it too often because this habit is one of the trigger factors heart failure.

Doctor Siti Elkana Nauli, SpJP(K), Head of the Failed Working Group Heart The Association of Indonesian Cardiovascular Specialists, reminded that staying up late is one of the many factors that trigger heart failure.

“There are many factors for heart failure, there are 23 factors, one of which is lack of rest, that includes staying up late,” he said in an educational webinar on the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease, Saturday (29/1/2022).

Doctor Siti also revealed that this condition can be exacerbated by excessive caffeine consumption.

He said, most young people often consume caffeine which is also not good for health heart health.

“In fact, caffeine can stimulate the heart to work harder, even though the heart is already weak. It’s already bad. We’re racing, it’s getting worse,” he said.

Doctor Siti believes that when you stay up late, your adrenaline will increase.

This condition will trigger the heartbeat so that the rhythm is faster and work harder.

“Maybe that’s one of the factors that causes the heart to deteriorate, so that the heart rhythm is faster and causes sudden death. Sleep blas, or again sitting, abruptly silent, then blas, he said.

To reduce the risk of heart failure, Dr. Siti reminded us to do some healthy habits, namely:

Maintain a healthy diet

According to doctor Siti, eating foods with fat that causes the accumulation of bad cholesterol can cause heart failure.

Therefore, a healthy and balanced diet can help reduce the risk of heart failure.

Stop smoking

He added that smoking is one of the factors causing the number of young heart failure patients.

“Many young patients who die of heart failure are due to frequent smoking, which makes the disease worse faster. So, the ban on smoking is correct,” he said.

According to doctor Siti, apart from smoking, the increasing number of young or productive heart failure sufferers is also due to the fact that many people are more concerned with their work.

This tendency makes them do less physical activity and forget to exercise.

” Lack of exercise can lead to a buildup of cholesterol , which triggers heart disease , ” he said .

However, what if you already have heart failure?

According to doctor Siti, if you already have heart failure, the best thing you can do is prevent the disease from getting worse.

This means that the patient must receive treatment in a hospital with standard treatment of heart failure.

Including taking the latest drug for heart failure, namely SGLT2-I, which is recommended as an additional therapy in heart failure patients.

“With SGLT2-I, the risk of death and repeated hospitalizations due to worsening of heart failure decreases,” he concluded.
