– Be careful, now it is extra easy to make a mistake on the shelf

(The online newspaper): Right next to each other on the shop shelf are two different varieties of pickles. They don’t look very different, but in terms of price the difference is huge.

  • Nora’s glass costs 31.90
  • The glass of Xtra pickles costs 3.90

The Nora glass thus costs more than eight times as much as the other.

Abnormal price differences

– I’m not saying the chains are planning for it, but people have to be careful, says blogger Rune “Gjerrigknarken” Nikolaisen to Nettavisen.

According to him, the run-up to Christmas is a period when you have to be particularly vigilant, because the price differences can be abnormally large.

– It never goes wrong, you can’t trust the chains to be our good friends. You have to take care of yourself, he says.

He understands well anyone who finds it confusing and difficult to know what things cost. The grocery chains adjust prices extra often in the run up to Christmas. Kiwi told Nettavisen recently that one day they had adjusted the price of several hundred items.

– Quick to make bad choices

– If you don’t have your “glasses on” it’s very easy to make bad choices, says Nikolaisen.

Some shelves were empty for, for example, sauerkraut and pickles when Nettavisen checked on Monday afternoon.

– There is extra tough competition now before Christmas, and these products have been pushed down and given an abnormally low price, says communications advisor Nora Helgesen at Kiwi.

– Is there a risk that it could become completely empty?

– We have ordered a lot of goods for Christmas, and we receive continuous deliveries, says Helgesen.

Several price cuts in the same shelf

The pickles were reduced to 3.90 last week. Now the beetroots have also received a price cut and are sold at just over four kroner a glass at Kiwi, Rema and Extra.

Rema 1000 states that the normal price for pickles is 26.60 and 21.40 for beetroot. Heavy price reductions, in other words.

Red cabbage is also a product where there are large price differences. At Rema 1000, the cheapest now costs 6.90 per pack, while Nora’s red cabbage costs three times as much. Both are on the same shelf.

– Take care now in the run-up to Christmas. Now it is extra easy to pick mistakes from the shelf, says Nikolaisen.

For sauerkraut there are smaller differences. Here, the chains’ own varieties are priced at around nine kroner, while Nora’s sauerkraut costs around 12.

20 glasses of pickles

– Rushing through the store is not good for the wallet, says Nikolaisen.

His advice to customers is to use your head.

– Don’t just buy because it’s cheap. Let others buy too. I have spoken to store managers who tell of people buying 20 jars of pickles. What are people going to do with it?

He himself bought two glasses.

– They are durable until 2026, so I will probably get to use them before they expire, says Nikolaisen.
